Ask for a card before you hold the chair.
An empty chair costs the same as a full one. A deposit — or just a card on file — turns most of them back into appointments.
A card, or a deposit, or neither
Turn on card details for online bookings and nothing is held until they are given. Set a deposit amount and it is charged at the booking; leave it at zero and the card is authorised but not taken — enough friction to stop an idle booking, without asking for money from someone who has not sat down yet.
Prove it is really them
Bookings can require a code sent to a phone, an email address, or both, before they are accepted. That is what stops the book filling with appointments made from a mistyped number that nobody will ever turn up for.
Or only people you already know
You can restrict online booking to existing clients, matched on name and phone number. New clients then come through you rather than straight into the diary — which suits a salon where the first appointment always starts with a conversation.
Questions about this
Can I set a different deposit for different services?
Not yet. The deposit is one amount for the salon, applied to online bookings that require payment. If you want to secure only the long appointments, the usual approach is to keep those off online booking and take them by phone.
Does RoxRox Salon charge a no-show fee automatically?
No, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. You can mark a booking as a no-show, which keeps the record straight and shows you who is doing it repeatedly — but charging for one is a decision you make, not something the software does on your behalf.
Which payment provider does this use?
Card details on the public booking page are handled by Stripe. Elsewhere in the product, checkouts can also run through PayPal, Braintree or Airwallex.
